Usal Recipe


Preparation Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 15 Minutes

Ingredients for Usal Recipe
2 tbsp oil
½ cup finely chopped onions
7 to 8 curry leaves (kadi patta)
2 cups boiled mixed sprouts (red chana, chawli, moong, rajma etc.)
salt to taste
1 tbsp besan (Bengal gram flour) mixed in ¾ cup of water
½ cup finely chopped tomatoes
¼ cup finely chopped coriander (dhania)

1 tsp black salt (sanchal)

For the garnish
2 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)


Method for cooking Usal
1. Heat the oil in a kadhai, add the onions and curry leaves and sauté till the onions turn translucent.
2. Add the mixed sprouts and salt and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes.
3. Add the besan mixture, mix well and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes.
4. Add the tomatoes, coriander and black salt, mix well and sauté for another 3 to 4 minutes.
5. Serve immediately garnished with coriander.
